FINAL CONCERT OF THE SEASON! Deeply rooted in the music of their homeland, our nation’s early immigrants brought their musical heritage with them as they forged new lives in the New World. Many American folk songs were inspired by these European and African traditions. This choral concert includes beloved folk songs such as Steven Sametz’s Shenandoah, Kirke Mechem’s Dan-u-el, and Ruth Elaine Schram’s Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair. And what folk-song celebration would be complete without the rousing, whimsical rendition of David DeVenney’s The Drunken Sailor?

3 WORLD PREMIERES:
The Blooming Bright Star of Belle Isle by Composer-in-Residence Debra Scroggins
Scraping Up Sand from the Bottom of the Sea by Dallas composer Tom Council
I Got a Key by TWU choral professor Dr. Joni Jensen

GUEST ARTISTS:
James Emery, piano and David Grogan, baritone

High Praise for “This Sacred Place” Concert

“We loved the program!! It was thrilling.”

“I was particularly impressed that your choir presented itself as one voice. The sound was lovely.”

“The concert tonight was breathtaking, emotion-filled, quite lovely, and (I suspect) fiendishly difficult to prepare.”

“The Texas Voices concert last night was wonderful. Performing original works of music with guest artists, an orchestral ensemble from Baylor, and a local elementary school children’s choir, the evening was a perfect way to begin the Lenten Season.”
